Glaucoma

The Silent thief of Vision

Glaucoma is the name given to a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve which carries the visual information from the eye to the brain.

Although the most common forms primarily affect the middle aged and the elderly, glaucoma can affect the people of all ages. “If left untreated glaucoma can result in irreversible blindness.”

Glaucoma patients don’t experience any symptoms and are unaware of vision loss until severe damage has occurred.

Early detection of glaucoma is possible only on routine eye examinations. Anyone over 40, with a family history of glaucoma, diabetics, abnormally high IOP (intraocular pressure), frequent change of near vision spectacles, previous eye injury or long-term use of steroids can get glaucoma.
